Solomon G. Tesfamichael

Prof. Solomon Gebremariam Tesfamichael is currently an Associate Professor at the University of Johannesburg, South Africa. He obtained his PhD in 2010 focusing on Light Detection and Ranging (LiDAR) remote sensing for forest characterization from the University of KwaZulu-Natal, South Africa. Prof. Tesfamichael teaches Geographic Information Systems and Remote Sensing to students who come from different fields of studies, including natural sciences, engineering, economics and human sciences. He drives a variety of topical remote sensing projects that involve young and aspiring researchers. He has supervised to completion more than 30 postgraduate students and has published more than 60 peer-reviewed papers. In addition, he worked as a consultant specializing in remote sensing applications to ecological assessment and climate change monitoring.

Solomon is currently serving as Secretary-General of the African Association of Remote Sensing of the Environment (AARSE).
