- [Discriminating the early stages of Fusarium circinatum infection of Pinus radiata seedlings using high spectral resolution data](https://africanremotesensing.org/discriminating-the-early-stages-of-fusarium-circinatum-infection-of-pinus-radiata-seedlings-using-high-spectral-resolution-data-2/): First reported at a nursery in Mpumalanga province in 1990,&nbsp;Fusarium circinatum&nbsp;is a fungal pathogen causing widespread mortality of&nbsp;Pinus radiata&nbsp;and&nbsp;Pinus patula&nbsp;seedlings. Improved methodologies for early disease detection are thus pertinent, and rely on identifying specific wavebands that correspond to specific physiological responses of the plant to stress. The objectives of this research were to i) determine the earliest possible window period, from time of infection, for disease detection, and ii) identify the specific hyperspectral wavebands that could be used for discriminating healthy and infected seedlings. - [Super-resolution post-processing for satellites with yaw-steering capability](https://africanremotesensing.org/super-resolution-post-processing-for-satellites-with-yaw-steering-capability-3/): We describe a method for improving Earth observation satellite image resolution, for specific areas of interest where the sensor design resolution is insufficient. Our method may be used for&nbsp;satellites with yaw-steering capability, such as NigeriaSat-2. We show that, according to the slanted&nbsp;edge modulation transfer function (MTF) plots, the effective resolution obtained by simulated yaw-steering of a satellite yielded a 138% improvement in resolution. - [Characterization of the texture of digital images by variography approach: Application to the classification of SAR images](https://africanremotesensing.org/characterization-of-the-texture-of-digital-images-by-variography-approach-application-to-the-classification-of-sar-images/): This paper presents a new method of texture modeling using geostatistic theory. From variographics abacus and variogram proprieties, we used fractal and exponential models to characterize Brodatz textures. In this approach, we modeled a texture by a vector called « feature vector&nbsp;» whose components are the parameters characterizing the experimental variogram, notably the «&nbsp;Slope&nbsp;», the «&nbsp;Range&nbsp;», the «&nbsp;Landing&nbsp;» and the «&nbsp;Fractal Dimension&nbsp;». To estimate these parameters, we use exponential and fractal models. Landsat 8 is the&nbsp;latest success&nbsp;in a decades-long NASA and U.S. Geological Survey partnership that has provided a continuous record of change across Earth’s land surfaces since 1972. &nbsp; Orbiting 440 miles above Earth, Landsat satellites document natural processes such as volcanic eruptions, glacial retreat, floods, and forest fires, and human processes such as urban expansion, crop irrigation, and forest clear-cutting.
