Professor Kamal Labbassi (male) is head of the research unit “Geosciences & Remote Sensing” and director of the BDAR (digital Belt and Road) – International Centre of Excellence EO-AWARE at the Chouaib Doukkali University (Morocco). He is the President of the African Association of Remote Sensing of the Environment (continental scope), and Ambassador, in Morocco, of the IEEE-GRSS_MENA region. Recently he has been elected to the International Society for Digital Earth (ISDE) council member, He obtained his Doctorate Es-Sciences (1998) and PhD Thesis (1991). He was visiting Professor at the University of Nantes, France (2004-2005). He has served as expert / consultant in feasibility studies and technical reports for the World Bank, African Union Commission and the African Academy of Sciences, and as Peer Reviewer of the international programs AMESD (African Monitoring of the Environment for Sustainable Development) and GMES and Africa (Global Monitoring for Environment and Security in Africa), implemented under the coordination of the commission of the African Union with the support of the European Commission. He also serves as scientific reviewer to some Journals (Remote sensing, RPTS, and Revue Télédétection AUF). He has initiated and directed numerous research projects focused on remote sensing applications in geosciences and involving an extensive network of international partners and supervised several dissertations of Engineers, Masters and PhD theses and is author and co-author of numerous publications and scientific papers.
