Newly appointed AARSE Communications Officer

Congratulations to Dr Souleye Wade for his appointment as AARSE‘s new communications officer for four years from 1st February 2017 till the end of 2020 biennial AARSE conference scheduled to be held in the last week of October 2020.

ARSGC in the course of creation

The African Association of Remote Sensing and Geospatial Companies is in the course of creation. On the sidelines of AARSE 11th Conference held in Kampala, Uganda, from 24 to 28 October 2016, members of Private African Companies of Remote Sensing have initiated the procedure leading as soon as possible to the creation of the Association, to be known as the African Association of Remote Sensing and Geospatial Companies, abbreviated ARSGC. RCMRD helps African countries improve Land Cover Monitoring

During 2016, SERVIR-Eastern and Southern Africa (E&SA) at the Regional Centre for Mapping of Resources for Development (RCMRD) conducted a needs assessment for Uganda to identify climate related issues the country faces. One issue identified was the need for a rigorous approach, including timely and periodic land cover and land cover change maps, to identifying deforested and degraded forest areas. Read more.

Open Access at the European Space Agency

A new Open Access policy for ESA's information and data will now facilitate broadest use and reuse of the materials for the general public, media, the educational sector, partners and anybody else seeking to utilise and build upon it. Read more.

Workshop: EO Application for Sustainable Development in Africa

A Workshop on "Earth Observation Application for Sustainable Development in Africa", organized by German Agency for International Cooperation (GIZ) and the Free Hanseatic City of Bremen, and in collaboration with NEREUS (Network of European Regions Using of Space Technologies), took place in Bremen/ Germany from 13 – 17 February 2017. The Republic of Senegal will host the Second Monitoring for Environment and Security in Africa (MESA) Forum,from 24 to 28 April 2017 in Dakar, Senegal. The theme of the forum is "From Earth Observation on to Policy Making".
