Geo-spatial Information is a rapidly growing field in science and industry worldwide. Geographic Information Systems, Remote Sensing, and Global Navigation Satellite Systems not only deliver accurate positioning but are used to acquire, manipulate, and store Geo-spatial data for solving pressing real‐world problems and complex issues concerning climate, water cycles, urban planning, and public health.

The International Academy of Geo-spatial Information Science, Wuhan University (IAG‐WHU) is an independent school for international students at Wuhan University. Wuhan University enjoys a worldwide reputation in this area and has made many contributions to the domestic and international development of the Geo-spatial field. IAG‐WHU provides qualified applicants with masters and doctoral education in Geo-spatial Information Science conferring internationally recognized degrees.

The Master program offers students high quality courses and training in the various domains of Geo-spatial information technologies useful for their future professional lives in terms of lifelong learning and potentially as preparation for doctoral studies. The MSc program includes the following specializations:

  • Photogrammetry and Remote Sensing
  • Geodesy and Survey Engineering
  • Cartography and Geographic Information Engineering

The Doctoral program serves as a preparation to scientific work in the area of Geo-spatial information technology. It provides a theoretical and technical training integrated with real world projects and equips graduates with skills to be international scholars, as well as professional engineers in government or NGOs. The program includes three major areas: Photogrammetry, Remote Sensing, Geodesy and Survey Engineering and Cartography and Geographic Information Engineering. Within those domains a wide range of faculty interests are represented, such as disaster management, urban planning and management, accurate positioning and space navigation, Geo-spatial information service, cultural heritage preservation, water resource studies, atmospheric monitoring. Ph.D students are expected to have a background in Mathematics or Computer Science or Geo-spatial Information, and we welcome those who have had professional experience and wish to return to deepen their education.

Wuhan University, located by the beautiful Luojia Mountain in the historic city of Wuhan, is a key national university under the direct administration of the Ministry of Education of China. Its history can be traced back to Ziqiang Institute, founded in 1893 by Zhang Zhidong, then governor of Hubei Province and Hunan Province in the late Qing Dynasty. Wuhan University is a comprehensive institution covering a wide range of disciplines, and is one of the most prestigious universities in China. Wuhan University has earned a world‐wide reputation. In recent years, it has expanded international exchanges and cooperation, establishing cooperative relationships with more than 370 universities and research institutes in over 44 countries and regions.

Wuhan, the most populous city in Central China, lies at the east of Jianghan Plain, and the intersection of the middle reaches of Yangtze and Han River. It’s the crossroads of nine provinces and known as the Chicago of the East. Wuhan has a long history, and rich culture traditions, and was the original seat of the Chu and Zhou dynasty about two thousand years ago. Today, Wuhan has a population of approximately 10,338,000 people (2014). It is one of China’s most important hubs for communications, water, and rail transportation and an important scientific research, education, and high‐tech industry base.
